India Summons Pakistani Envoy Over Naval Collision in International Waters
India summoned Pakistan's Charge d'Affaires over a naval collision in international waters, citing unprofessional conduct and a breach of the 1991 advance notice agreement.
India summoned the Charge d'Affaires of the Pakistani High Commission in New Delhi on Wednesday and lodged a strong protest over what it described as the unacceptable and unprofessional conduct of Pakistani naval units at sea, which led to a collision with a unit of the Indian Navy.
The incident occurred in international waters. According to the Ministry of External Affairs, it did not result in any major damage. New Delhi, however, said the conduct of the Pakistani naval ship was in direct contravention of Article 10 of the Agreement between India and Pakistan on Advance Notice on Military Exercises, Manoeuvres and Troops Movements of April 1991.
The Pakistani diplomat was advised to convey to the concerned authorities in his country the need for all military units to observe due care and respect the provisions of the relevant bilateral agreements, so as to prevent any repeat of such incidents.
In a reciprocal step, the Charge d'Affaires of India in Islamabad has been instructed to lodge a similar protest with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan.
