India summoned Pakistan's Charge d'Affaires after a Pakistani naval vessel collided with an Indian Navy ship in international waters.
India has summoned Pakistan's Charge d'Affaires in New Delhi to lodge a strong protest over a collision between naval vessels of the two countries in international waters.
The Ministry of External Affairs described the conduct of the Pakistani naval units as unacceptable and unprofessional. According to the ministry, the incident did not result in any major damage.
New Delhi said the actions of the Pakistani naval ship directly contravened Article 10 of the 1991 Agreement between India and Pakistan on Advance Notice on Military Exercises, Manoeuvres and Troops Movements.
During the meeting, the Pakistani diplomat was asked to convey to the concerned authorities in Islamabad the need for military units to exercise due care and to comply with relevant bilateral agreements in order to prevent a recurrence of such incidents.
In a parallel step, India has directed its Charge d'Affaires in Islamabad to lodge a similar protest with Pakistan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The development marks a fresh strain in bilateral ties over military conduct, with New Delhi pressing for adherence to existing confidence-building arrangements between the two neighbours.
