India-US Exercise Yudh Abhyas 2026 Begins at Auli and Mahajan

The 22nd edition of the India-US Joint Military Exercise Yudh Abhyas commenced with an opening ceremony at the Foreign Training Node in Auli, Uttarakhand. The exercise is being held simultaneously at Auli and the Mahajan Field Firing Range in Rajasthan.

Major General Amaresh Gunjan, General Officer Commanding, 14 Infantry Division, and Colonel Benjamin Jackman, Commander, 1st Infantry Brigade Combat Team, 11th Airborne Division, US Army, addressed the participating contingents. Around 600 personnel from each side are taking part in the drill.

The exercise is designed to sharpen the joint military capability of the two armies for the employment of Integrated Battle Groups in mountainous and semi-mountainous terrain, with a focus on infantry-dominated operations. It also aims to strengthen interoperability, enable the exchange of best operational practices and improve joint planning and execution.

Technology infusion is a key focus area this year. Training will include the use of drones and autonomous systems for surveillance and reconnaissance, while contemporary weapon systems will be demonstrated at the Mahajan Field Firing Ranges. Subject Matter Experts from both armies will exchange views on emerging technologies and developments in multi-domain warfare.

The drill offers both armies an opportunity to share tactics, techniques and procedures and to enhance their ability to conduct coordinated military operations across varied terrain and operational environments.
