India and Visegrad Group Hold First Foreign Ministers' Meeting

India and the Visegrad Group have held their first-ever Foreign Ministers' meeting, a development External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar described as a historic occasion.

The Visegrad Group, commonly known as the V4, is a cultural and political alliance bringing together four Central European countries: the Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland and Slovakia. The grouping works to advance cooperation among its members across military, economic, cultural and energy affairs.

The inaugural V4+India Foreign Ministers' meeting marks a new stage in the relationship between New Delhi and the four-nation bloc. By elevating their engagement to the foreign-minister level, the two sides have created a formal platform for dialogue that did not previously exist.

The V4's stated focus areas — defence, trade, culture and energy — align with several of India's own priorities in Europe, giving the new format a broad agenda to work with. The meeting also places India alongside a grouping that coordinates closely within the wider European framework.
