Railways Sanctions Rs 736 Crore for Safety Upgrades Across Four States

Indian Railways has approved infrastructure projects worth Rs 736 crore across four states, aimed at strengthening train safety, signalling, electric traction and road connectivity on several routes.

The package covers the installation of Kavach, the indigenously developed automatic train protection system, electronic interlocking at railway stations, an electric traction upgrade and the construction of a road over bridge.

Uttar Pradesh

In Uttar Pradesh, Rs 252 crore has been sanctioned for rolling out Kavach 4.0 over 607.7 route kilometres in the Lucknow Division. Kavach is designed to prevent train collisions and enhance safety by automatically applying the brakes when required.

Maharashtra

Maharashtra accounts for Rs 209 crore, earmarked for electronic interlocking at seven stations in the Solapur Division: Mohol, Mundhewadi, Bale, Solapur, Hotgi Junction-Hotgi A Cabin, Shahabad and Wadi Junction. Electronic interlocking is a signalling system that permits train movements only when the necessary route and safety conditions are satisfied.

Andhra Pradesh

In Andhra Pradesh, Rs 142 crore has been approved to upgrade the electric traction system on the 73-kilometre Savalyapuram-Guntur section. The work involves shifting the existing system to 2x25 kV traction, which is expected to support the network's power requirements and improve operational capacity.

Gujarat

Gujarat has been allotted Rs 133 crore for a four-lane road over bridge on the Udhna-Ukai Songadh section. The project is intended to improve road connectivity and reduce interaction between road traffic and railway operations at the location.
