IndiGo Doha-Bengaluru flight diverted to Muscat after crew member falls ill

An IndiGo flight travelling from Doha, Qatar, to Bengaluru was diverted to Muscat, Oman, on Thursday after a crew member required urgent medical assistance. The aircraft landed safely, and the affected staff member was attended to immediately upon arrival.

The airline said it arranged an alternate aircraft and a fresh set of crew to continue the remaining journey to Bengaluru. Passengers were offered refreshments and kept informed while waiting at Muscat. IndiGo expressed regret over the disruption and reiterated that the safety of customers, crew, and aircraft remains its top priority.

The diversion comes amid heightened scrutiny of India's rapidly expanding aviation sector. Just two days earlier, a Delhi-bound IndiGo flight from Goa returned to Manohar International Airport after the pilot reported a suspected engine failure shortly after take-off. That aircraft, carrying 229 people, landed safely on the runway after air traffic control declared a full emergency.

These incidents follow a difficult period for Indian carriers. In June, an Air India flight from Ahmedabad to London crashed shortly after take-off, resulting in heavy casualties. In December last year, IndiGo faced widespread flight cancellations due to a crew shortage, causing chaos at airports and eventually leading to a change in its chief executive.

As domestic air travel continues to grow, the recent spate of operational issues has raised questions about whether safety protocols and regulatory oversight are advancing at the same pace as the industry's expansion.
