IndiGo Goa-Delhi flight makes precautionary return to Mopa after engine snag

An IndiGo flight operating between Goa and Delhi was forced to abort its journey on Tuesday after the crew detected a technical problem with one of the engines shortly after takeoff.

Flight 6E 2102, which departed from Manohar International Airport (Mopa Airport) at approximately 9:28 am, turned back and landed safely at the same airport. The precautionary return triggered a full emergency response, though the aircraft touched down without any incident.

All 229 passengers on board are safe, and the airline said it is making alternative travel arrangements for them.

In a statement, an IndiGo spokesperson said a technical issue was detected soon after departure, following which standard operating procedures were followed. The relevant authorities were informed, and the pilots executed a return and landed the aircraft safely at Mopa. The aircraft is now undergoing maintenance checks and will resume operations only after securing all necessary clearances, the spokesperson added, reiterating that passenger and crew safety remains the airline's top priority.

The incident comes days after another IndiGo flight, operating from Delhi to Gorakhpur on 19 August, performed a precautionary go-around before landing safely. In that case, the crew aborted the initial approach as a safety measure, and the aircraft landed without issue on a subsequent attempt. A post-flight inspection later revealed minor scratches near the Auxiliary Power Unit (APU) inlet, prompting a temporary grounding for detailed checks and repairs.
