Indonesia's President Yet to Finalise Central Bank Governor Pick

Indonesia's President Prabowo Subianto has not yet made a final decision on who will succeed Bank Indonesia Governor Perry Warjiyo, who resigned late last month for personal reasons. His spokesperson, Prasetyo Hadi, who also serves as minister of state secretariat, told local media on Friday that while the president has discussed the appointment with several people, no formal choice has been made.

Prasetyo confirmed that interim governor Destry Damayanti is among those being considered, but stressed that other candidates are also in the running. He added that no names have been submitted to parliament so far.

Under Indonesian law, the president may submit up to three names for the position. Parliament then has one month to select one of the candidates or reject all of them.

Sources with direct knowledge of the matter have indicated that Damayanti is the frontrunner for the role. The formal nomination process is expected to begin after parliament reconvenes on August 14. Earlier, Prasetyo had said the president aimed to submit a list of candidates this week.

Investors are closely watching the nomination process, given the central bank's key role in managing monetary policy and economic stability.
