Indonesia and China Launch New Strategic Dialogue in Jakarta
Indonesia and China held their first Comprehensive Strategic Dialogue in Jakarta, agreeing to boost trade and cooperation.
Indonesia and China convened their inaugural Comprehensive Strategic Dialogue (CSD) in Jakarta on Friday, a new bilateral mechanism aimed at deepening ties across political, economic, security, maritime, and people-to-people spheres.
Indonesian Foreign Minister Sugiono and Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi co-chaired the meeting, which was designed to follow up on agreements between the two presidents and identify fresh avenues for collaboration.
"Through this platform, we are strengthening the mechanism to follow up on the consensus reached by the two presidents, identify new areas of cooperation and address various challenges that we encounter along the way," Sugiono said at the podium.
The two sides also agreed to ease trade flows, with Sugiono noting they would "facilitate trade, including exploring market access for Indonesia's leading commodities."
Wang Yi remarked that the bilateral relationship has "gone beyond the bilateral sphere and is having a broad and profound impact on the region and the world."
Economic ties between the two nations have grown rapidly, with bilateral trade valued at approximately $167.48 billion in 2025. The new dialogue mechanism is expected to build on this momentum and address shared challenges in the region.
