Indonesia Condemns Houthi Attack on Cargo Ship, Crew Member Missing

Indonesia has issued a strong condemnation of a Houthi attack on the cargo vessel MV Tihamah, which resulted in injuries to two Indonesian crew members and left a third unaccounted for.

Speaking at a press briefing in Jakarta, Yvonne Wewengkang, spokesperson for Indonesia's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, conveyed the government's firm stance. "He strongly condemned this attack and emphasized the urgent need to prevent further escalation," she said, referring to the Foreign Minister.

Wewengkang also underscored Indonesia's commitment to regional stability, stating, "We remain committed to continuing to work with Yemen to maintain peace and stability in the region."

Heni Hamidah, Director for Citizen Protection at the ministry, provided an update on the missing crew member. "This morning, we received confirmation through a diplomatic note from Yemen's Ministry of Foreign Affairs that the third crew member remains missing and has not yet been found," she said. "Search efforts are still ongoing, and we are maintaining intensive communication."

The attack on the MV Tihamah marks a serious escalation in the region, drawing a swift diplomatic response from Jakarta. Indonesia has signaled its intent to cooperate closely with Yemeni authorities as the search for the missing sailor continues.
