Indonesia's KPK Detains Eight in Summarecon Land-Rights Bribery Probe

Indonesia's anti-graft agency has detained eight people, among them the president director of property developer Summarecon Agung and several government officials, in connection with an alleged bribery case involving land-use rights.

The agency, known as the KPK, said it seized electronic evidence along with cash in rupiah and foreign currencies totalling 106.3 billion rupiah (about $6 million). The disclosure was made by Achmad Taufik Husein, the agency's acting director of investigations, at a press conference late on Tuesday.

All eight suspects have been placed in KPK detention facilities in Jakarta for an initial 20 days.

The case centres on an application to extend a right-to-build title for land managed by Summarecon in Bogor, West Java. According to the agency, the investigation was opened after it received complaints of alleged corruption involving several officials at the Ministry of Agrarian Affairs and Spatial Planning/National Land Agency.

Summarecon Agung did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
