INS Sudarshini Reaches Livorno, Deepening India-Italy Naval Ties
INS Sudarshini arrived at Livorno, Italy, on 09 Sep 2026 as part of Lokayan 2026, after a Mediterranean passage exercise with Italy's ITS Palinuro.
The Indian Navy's sail training ship, INS Sudarshini, sailed into Livorno, Italy, on 09 September 2026, continuing its transoceanic expedition, Lokayan 2026. The vessel has now covered more than 17,400 nautical miles and visited ten countries during the deployment, which is intended to carry forward India's maritime traditions and its message of friendship across the seas.
Before reaching Livorno, the ship took part in a passage exercise in the Mediterranean Sea with ITS Palinuro, the Italian Navy's sail training ship. The exercise featured coordinated manoeuvring and sail-handling drills, giving the crews of both sailing ships a chance to interact and share professional expertise.
Livorno is home to the Italian Naval Academy, the Accademia Navale, and the port call offers scope for further professional engagement between the two navies. During the visit, cross-deck visits and interactions between Indian trainees and Italian cadets are planned, and the ship will remain open to visitors.
Lokayan 2026 is aimed at strengthening India's maritime cooperation and advancing the vision of MAHASAGAR, or Mutual and Holistic Advancement for Security and Growth Across Regions.
