Iran’s Foreign Minister Calls on US to Honour Islamabad MOU Commitments
Iran’s FM Araghchi urges the US to honour the Islamabad MOU, saying compliance is key to ending the war.
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has called on the United States to return to its commitments under the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), describing the agreement as the essential framework for resolving the current crisis.
Speaking in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan, on 31 August 2026, Araghchi noted that the MOU — signed by the presidents of the two countries — had been violated by Washington. He stressed that the US must now abide by its obligations under the pact.
“One of the issues raised in all meetings was the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding, signed by the presidents of the two countries and violated by the US,” Araghchi said. “The US must return to its commitments and the memorandum of understanding; then we can get out of this situation, because all countries are concerned for the war to end as soon as possible.”
The minister reiterated that the path forward is clear, stating that America must honour the agreement its president signed. “We explained that the solution is completely clear and specific; America must return to its commitments and the agreement that its president signed. Only then can everything be put on the right track,” he added.
Araghchi’s remarks come amid ongoing diplomatic efforts to de-escalate tensions, with regional and international actors closely watching for any shift in Washington’s stance on the bilateral accord.
