Iran to restore 95 mcm/day gas output by September end

Iran's oil ministry announced on Tuesday that the country will restore 95 million cubic metres (mcm) per day of natural gas production capacity by the end of September, following repairs to energy infrastructure damaged during the conflict with Israel and the United States.

Oil Minister Mohsen Paknejad, quoted by the ministry's news outlet, said the restoration follows damage to gas-processing facilities in Assaluyeh. He noted that the impact of the damage has been largely offset by utilising spare capacity at other processing plants.

Paknejad said reconstruction of four damaged gas-processing plants is progressing rapidly. Debris has been cleared, reconstruction systems are in place, and contractors have begun work. He added that rebuilding is expected to finish ahead of schedule, allowing the full lost capacity to return to the production network.

However, Paknejad cautioned that some of the restored capacity will be unavailable during the winter. This means Iran will need to carefully manage both gas supply and consumption to avoid challenges in meeting demand.

In July, a senior government official had said Iran expected to restore about 100 mcm per day of natural gas production capacity "within the coming months", after strikes cut output by about 230 mcm/day since the war started in late February.
