Iran's Parliament Speaker: Diplomacy Must Convert Military Strength into Political Gains

Iran's parliament speaker, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, said on Tuesday that diplomacy ought to convert military strength into political gains, while asserting that Tehran would stand firm against military, economic and media pressure from its adversaries.

Speaking on the theme of statecraft and national resilience, Ghalibaf framed diplomatic engagement as an extension of Iran's defensive posture rather than a departure from it. In his view, negotiations and international outreach are meaningful only when they translate hard-won capabilities into tangible political outcomes.

His remarks come amid heightened regional tensions and sustained external pressure on Iran across multiple fronts. The speaker's formulation places military preparedness and diplomatic manoeuvring on the same continuum, suggesting that Tehran sees no contradiction between the two.

Ghalibaf also struck a defiant note, saying the country would resist attempts by its enemies to exert pressure through military, economic and media means. The three categories he named reflect what Iranian officials frequently describe as a multi-pronged campaign against the Islamic Republic.
