Iran's Parliament Speaker Urges Strategy to Counter 'Unjust' US Sanctions
Iran's parliament speaker calls for a plan to counter new US sanctions, urging unity with Iraq against economic warfare.
Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf has called for a comprehensive plan to overcome what he described as "unjust sanctions" imposed by the United States. His remarks, reported by the semi-official Tasnim news agency, came during an official visit to Iraq on Friday.
Qalibaf asserted that the US and Israel, unable to achieve military victory over Iran and Iraq, have shifted to psychological and economic tactics. He emphasized that both nations would stand firm against such pressure, and warned that attempts to sow division between Tehran and Baghdad would only strengthen their ties.
The speaker highlighted the security established by both countries through their own efforts, stating they would not permit external powers to determine their future.
The statement follows US President Donald Trump's announcement on Wednesday of "unprecedented" economic warfare against Iran. Describing the move as an "Economic D-Day," Trump said it would be "the most crushing economic operation ever taken against any country." He also cautioned that nations providing support to Iran would face severe economic consequences, urging allies to join in isolating Tehran.
