Iran Says Saudi Arabia Sought Delay of Regional Meeting

Iran's foreign ministry has said that Saudi Arabia asked for a regional meeting to be put off for the time being, describing the delay as the loss of a valuable opening.

In remarks carried on Iranian state television, foreign ministry spokesman Esmail Baghaei said a significant opportunity had come into view and that no responsible party should let it slip away — whether because of pressure from outside the region or because of excuses that, in his words, have nothing to do with Iran.

Baghaei confirmed that the reports circulating about the postponement were accurate, and that the request had come from Saudi Arabia.

Separately, he said the understanding reached between Iran and Oman, as the two coastal states, has been finalized. Tehran will consult with Muscat on the next step, including how the arrangement should be made public or formally recorded, and will share further details in due course.

No timeline was given for when the regional meeting might be rescheduled, and no reason was offered for the Saudi request beyond Baghaei's remarks.
