Iran insists Strait of Hormuz remains blocked, rejects US claims of control

Iran's maritime authority for the Strait of Hormuz has firmly stated that the critical waterway remains closed, pushing back against recent assertions from Washington. In a statement issued on Wednesday, the Persian Gulf Strait Authority (PGSA) declared that the strait will not be reopened until Tehran's conditions are accepted.

The PGSA directly addressed claims circulating from US officials, insisting that such statements do not alter the situation on the ground. "Claims and repeated posts by U.S. officials that the Strait of Hormuz is no longer blocked do not change the reality," the authority said.

This latest declaration comes hours after US President Donald Trump claimed on his social media platform that the United States has "total control" over the strait and intends to "keep it." The exchange highlights the ongoing standoff over one of the world's most strategically vital maritime chokepoints, through which a significant portion of global oil shipments transit.

The PGSA's firm stance indicates that the dispute over the strait remains unresolved, with Tehran continuing to leverage the waterway's closure as a key bargaining chip in its broader confrontation with the United States.
