Iran Says It Hit US Drone Vessel Near Strait of Hormuz

Iran announced on Sunday that its forces struck an unmanned American vessel attempting to enter the Strait of Hormuz, marking the latest exchange in a renewed bout of hostilities between Tehran and Washington. The United States has not yet verified the reported incident.

The claim follows a US military statement from a day earlier, which said American forces had targeted three Iranian oil tankers in retaliation for a missile attack on Navy warships. Meanwhile, the nuclear issue that originally sparked the war remains unresolved. Diplomats report that the US, Britain, France, and Germany are seeking to refer Iran to the UN Security Council over alleged non-compliance with its nuclear nonproliferation obligations.

In the absence of productive negotiations, Tehran has shifted its leverage toward the Strait of Hormuz, a vital artery for global oil and gas shipments that was once treated as an international waterway.
