Isar Aerospace to More Than Double Launch Capacity by 2028
Isar Aerospace plans to more than double its launch capacity in 2028, with four flights scheduled for next year and a new factory capable of building about 40 vehicles annually.
German rocket maker Isar Aerospace intends to more than double its launch capacity in 2028, the company said on Tuesday, as it looks to capture rising demand for access to space.
Speaking at a press conference, Chief Commercial Officer Stella Guillen said the company was "a little bit more" than doubling its capacity for 2028, adding that the entire 2028 capacity is already contracted.
Isar has scheduled at least four flights for next year, Guillen said. She noted that the company would need nearly 200 Spectrum-class vehicles in 2028 to meet the level of demand it is currently seeing, without disclosing a backlog figure.
The planned ramp-up reflects broader interest in alternative launch providers, as governments and companies worldwide prepare satellite deployments, particularly in low Earth orbit. That trend is driving demand for more frequent launches and a wider choice of launch sites and orbital destinations.
Isar, backed by the NATO Innovation Fund, is moving into a new combined headquarters and factory capable of producing about 40 launch vehicles per year. The company also aims to complete its third flight soon after a successful launch on September 5 from Arctic Norway.
Separately, Isar signed a launch-services agreement with U.S. space firm SEOPS for five dedicated Spectrum launches between 2028 and 2030 from sites in Norway and Canada.
