The Israeli military has released aerial footage that it says shows strikes on Hezbollah positions in southern Lebanon. The video, made public on Saturday, displays what the military describes as attacks on infrastructure belonging to the Iran-backed militant group.
Lebanon's Health Ministry reported that three people were killed and 23 others wounded in Israeli strikes on Friday in southern Lebanon and the eastern Bekaa Valley. The Israeli military said the strikes were a response to a drone launched by Hezbollah at Israeli forces in the area. The drone was intercepted, and no soldiers were injured, according to the military.
The incident comes amid a fragile and largely unimplemented ceasefire framework. In June, Lebanon and Israel agreed to a U.S.-mediated deal that called for Israeli withdrawal from occupied areas in southern Lebanon in exchange for Hezbollah's disarmament. However, little progress has been made on the ground.
The current hostilities trace back to late February, when Hezbollah fired rockets into Israel shortly after Israel and the United States began military action against Iran. Israel subsequently invaded Lebanon and has occupied a significant portion of the country's south. Hezbollah has rejected direct negotiations with Israel, complicating efforts to resolve the conflict.
