Israeli Man Killed in West Bank Shooting Near Neve Tzuf Settlement
A 30-year-old Israeli man was fatally shot near the Neve Tzuf settlement in the occupied West Bank on Sunday morning, the military said.
Israeli security forces were deployed near the Neve Tzuf settlement in the occupied West Bank on Sunday after a 30-year-old man was killed in a shooting attack, according to the Israeli military.
The military said the assailant opened fire from a vehicle and then fled the scene on foot. The victim was taken to a hospital, where he died of his wounds, police said. Security forces were seen at a junction near the settlement, with vehicles bearing Israeli flags and a helicopter overhead.
The attack took place hours before Yom Kippur, widely regarded as the holiest day in the Jewish calendar.
Less than an hour later, the military said it killed a Palestinian man who attempted to carry out a ramming attack on soldiers at an intersection near Jenin. It added that it was searching for another man who had been in the car.
Prior to the shooting, Israeli troops conducted a large counterterrorism operation in the northern West Bank town of Al-Mughayyir. Palestinian officials said at least 28 people were detained.
Tensions have surged in the West Bank, and extremist Israeli settler attacks against Palestinians have increased sharply, a trend attributed to the influence of right-wing, ultra-nationalist politicians in Israel's government.
