At least two people were killed and several others wounded in Israeli airstrikes across the Gaza Strip on Thursday, according to Palestinian health officials.
In the first incident, Jamal Abu Kamil, a police chief in Gaza, was killed when his vehicle was struck southwest of Gaza City. The territory's interior ministry confirmed his death, and his body was taken to Shifa Hospital along with another person wounded in the same attack. The Israeli military did not immediately respond to a request for comment on that strike.
In a separate strike in Khan Younis, a man was killed and another person injured, according to Nasser Hospital, where both were taken for treatment.
The Israeli military said it had targeted a Hamas company commander in Khan Younis who was allegedly planning attacks against its troops. The military did not provide further details on the operation.
Footage from Nasser Hospital's morgue showed mourners grieving over the bodies of those killed, with one body being carried out wrapped in a Hamas flag. The strikes come amid continued tensions in the region, with both sides reporting casualties in recent days.
