Jaipur Family Murder: Hair Strands in Victim's Hand Emerge as Key Clue

Four members of a family — a woman and her three daughters — were found dead inside their house in Jaipur's Kardhani area, with police suspecting the woman's husband of carrying out the killings. The accused, Rahul, is on the run.

According to investigators, the victims were killed by blows to the head with a brick. The bodies of 40-year-old Geeta were found in an upstairs room, while her three daughters, aged between 17 and 23, were discovered in two separate rooms on the ground floor. The youngest, Gauri, was found on a bed, while Nandini and Radhika were in another room. Police suspect one of the girls, believed to have been sleeping on a sofa, was struck on the head with a cement brick weighing around 10 kg; the impact reportedly caused her to fall and break the sofa, after which she was struck again.

A crucial piece of evidence is a few strands of hair recovered from Geeta's hand. Investigators suspect the hair may belong to Rahul, raising the possibility of a physical altercation between the couple before the deaths. The samples have been sent for forensic examination, which is expected to establish whether they match Rahul and whether a struggle took place.

Preliminary findings suggest Rahul had suffered losses in the stock market and wanted to sell a plot, a move Geeta opposed. Investigators are examining whether an argument over the proposed sale escalated into the killings.

Police suspect that after the murders, Rahul changed his blood-stained clothes and bathed. Around 7 am, he reportedly collected milk from the milkman and prepared tea, serving it to his elderly father, Lakshmidas Jha, and drinking some himself — even as the bodies lay inside the house. Lakshmidas, who has hearing difficulties, was reportedly unaware of the killings and may not have heard any screams. He was later said to be in a state of shock and unable to speak about the tragedy.

The family had been living in the house since 2021. Rahul's elder brother, Sanjay, lives with his family in Jhotwara. Neighbours described Rahul as someone who kept to himself, while his three daughters were known to be cheerful and friendly.

Investigators have also found that Rahul travelled to Gujarat on September 6 and stayed there for around three days. Police are trying to establish whom he met and why he made the trip.

Police Commissioner Sachin Mittal has formed more than a dozen teams under ACP Shiv Bhardwaj and SHO Sawai Singh to trace Rahul. The teams are scanning CCTV footage around the crime scene and questioning people who may have information about the case.
