Tourist Guide Stabbed to Death Near Amer Fort; Protests Shut Down Area

A tourist guide in Jaipur succumbed to stab wounds on Tuesday, a day after being attacked near the iconic Amer Fort. The accused, identified as Azam, a jeep driver, has been arrested, and the case has been registered as murder.

The victim, Manish Soni, was attacked following an altercation in the Maota Lake area. He was admitted to Sawai Man Singh Hospital in critical condition but died during treatment. Officials stated that Soni succumbed to excessive blood loss. CCTV footage reportedly shows the accused running towards Soni and striking him with a knife in front of the fort.

The death triggered widespread protests in Amer town. Demonstrators blocked the main road leading to the fort, halted tourist activities including elephant rides, and shut down local shops and schools as a precaution. A large police force has been deployed to manage the situation.

Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Alok Gautam confirmed the arrest, stating, "We have the accused in custody. We have evidence against him." He added that authorities are in talks with the family to address their concerns.

The victim's family has submitted a memorandum demanding compensation of Rs 1 crore, a government job for a dependent, and action against illegal vehicles operating in the area. They have also called for "bulldozer action" against the accused's house. Soni is survived by his wife and three children and was the family's sole earner.
