Blast at Jalalabad police station in Punjab's Fazilka damages two seized cars

A blast occurred inside a police station in Punjab's Fazilka district in the early hours of Sunday, damaging two vehicles that were in police custody.

The explosion took place near the main gate of the Jalalabad police station at around 2 am, officials said. The windshields of the two seized cars were shattered by the impact.

"A blast occurred in Jalalabad around 2 am last night, due to which the windows of two old vehicles parked there were damaged. These were vehicles kept in police custody," Superintendent of Police Satinder Kumar said.

A forensics team inspected the site to gather evidence and determine the cause of the explosion. Police, however, did not confirm that a grenade was used.

Senior Superintendent of Police Gagan Ajit Singh and other senior officers visited the spot during the morning.

No major damage was reported, but the incident — coming months before state elections — prompted questions about the law and order situation in Punjab.

Shiromani Akali Dal chief Sukhbir Singh Badal described it as a "total collapse of law and order in Punjab".

"Punjab is in chaos. If police stations are unsafe, how can Punjabis be safe? It is the rule of gangsters, not a rule of law," added senior Akali leader Bikram Singh Majithia.
