Jalpaiguri court awards death sentence, orders state care for convict's minor sons

Additional Sessions Judge Biplab Roy, while pronouncing the verdict, observed that the sins of a parent cannot be visited upon the child, and that the State has a duty to protect the educational future of the children. The court said the children should not be made to suffer for the actions of their father.
As part of the order, the District Magistrate of Jalpaiguri has been directed to ensure the physical and mental well-being of the two minor sons of the convict. The directive places an obligation on the administration to look after the children's welfare and to safeguard their access to education.
The ruling reflects the principle that the legal consequences faced by a convict do not extend to dependent minors, and that the State must step in to secure their future when a family is left vulnerable by a criminal conviction.
