Bihar: Teenagers Returning From Coaching Classes Assaulted in Jamui

A teenage boy and girl were intercepted by a group of men in Bihar's Jamui district on Saturday evening while they were returning from coaching classes, and were allegedly assaulted and molested before being allowed to leave.

The incident took place on September 19 between 6 pm and 7 pm, according to Superintendent of Police (Jamui) Vishwajeet Dayal. Videos of the episode surfaced on social media and prompted the district police to take cognisance and open an investigation.

In one clip, the boy is seen riding a scooter with the girl seated behind him as several men surround the vehicle. The two are heard repeatedly apologising to the group. The boy tells those present that they study at the same school and that their families are aware of them. A man in the group then slaps him and responds, "If they know, then call them," while another is heard saying, "Call the family."

The girl is seen with folded hands, pleading with the group to let them go. In another video, she is heard saying, "Please let us go, we will never come here again." Some members of the group are eventually heard telling the two to leave.

A further clip shows members of the group chasing the pair. The boy is pulled by the collar of his shirt, while a man is seen holding and lifting the girl before running away.

Dayal said the police had not received a complaint so far, but had reached the victims on the basis of the videos and identified those allegedly involved. "We have started taking action, and they will be arrested soon after they are traced," he said.

A source said the teenagers were returning from coaching classes. "We are making efforts to trace those identified in connection with the incident. Arrests will be made soon," the SP said.
