Jamui Groping Accused's Father Held After 20 Years in Double Murder Case

Police in Bihar's Jamui district have arrested a man who had been evading capture for more than two decades in a double murder case, a breakthrough that came while officers were investigating his son in a separate and widely reported assault case.

Ganori Yadav was wanted in connection with the killing of two brothers, DP Yadav and Pune Yadav, who were murdered on April 3, 2003, in Pratappur village. The dispute was over business, and the victims' mother named Ganori Yadav as an accused in the case. He had been absconding since then.

The arrest followed the detention of his son, Nandan Yadav, who was held for allegedly assaulting a Class 10 student and groping the boy's minor friend on a road in Jamui. While examining Nandan Yadav's background during interrogation, police discovered his father's alleged involvement in the old murder case. Ganori Yadav was subsequently taken into custody and sent to judicial remand.

Nandan Yadav was later shot in the leg during an encounter when police said they foiled his attempt to escape custody.

Five people have been arrested in connection with the groping of the Class 10 student, and two minors have been detained. One of the accused, Hareram Yadav, was slapped by a lawyer during a court appearance. The lawyer said he acted because the incident had brought disrepute to Jamui.

Residents of Madwa village said anti-social elements from nearby areas gather near Madwa mountain and have harassed women visiting the spot. One local recalled that a boy was assaulted by such a group about six months earlier while visiting the mountain with a friend.

In June, a video of sexual violence against a girl in Jamui circulated widely. Two men from the victim's village were accused of abducting her, subjecting her to sexual violence and sharing a video of the incident on social media. They were arrested and later released on bail.
