JD(S) leader seeks wider probe into Dharwad tahsildar bribery case
JD(S) Dharwad unit president Gururaj Hunasimarad has demanded a comprehensive inquiry into the bribery case involving tahsildar Sachidananda Kuchanur.
The Dharwad district unit president of the Janata Dal (Secular), Gururaj Hunasimarad, has called for a comprehensive investigation into the case of Dharwad tahsildar Sachidananda Kuchanur, who was caught by Lokayukta officials while allegedly accepting a bribe of ₹50 lakh.
Speaking at a press conference in Dharwad on Friday, Mr. Hunasimarad alleged that influential persons were backing the tahsildar. He said corruption had crossed all limits in taluk-level government offices and various departments in the district, especially in matters relating to land records and revenue administration.
He claimed that farmers were being affected by alleged irregularities in land transactions and the upkeep of revenue records, and that irregularities were taking place in the issuance of title deeds and the updating of records at tahsildar offices.
Mr. Hunasimarad further alleged that companies and middlemen had acquired farmers' land along highways around Dharwad — including in Itigatti, Lakamanahalli and Yerikoppa — at low prices. He also alleged that bribes were being demanded for entering names in pahani and khata records despite court orders relating to land records.
He urged the authorities to conduct a detailed inquiry into the alleged irregularities and to act against the officials and private individuals involved.
