Jessica Simpson Confirms Netflix Documentary, Set for 2027 Release

Jessica Simpson has confirmed that Netflix is producing a documentary about her life, career, and enduring influence. The project is slated to premiere in 2027.

Simpson made the announcement on Instagram, sharing a photo of herself with a camera crew. "It's time to open a new chapter," she wrote, tagging Netflix and adding "2027."

The documentary will trace Simpson's journey in the public eye and her return to music after a long break. It will be directed by Joe Pearlman. According to Netflix's Tudum, the film comes after Simpson returned to recording and performing with her two 2025 Nashville Canyon EPs, ending a 15-year hiatus from original music.

Simpson is no stranger to cameras. She previously starred in the reality series 'Newlyweds: Nick and Jessica,' which documented her marriage to Nick Lachey about two decades ago. Since then, she has sold over 20 million records worldwide, built The Jessica Simpson Collection, and published her bestselling memoir 'Open Book.'

Her recent musical resurgence follows a difficult period. Simpson has credited moving to Nashville with helping her navigate that time. "It brought me home to myself and inside of my heart in a really hard time of my life," she said during a December 2025 show in Connecticut.

She also reflected on past professional setbacks, including being dropped by Sony Nashville months after her 2008 country album 'Do You Know.' That experience left her "mad at music," but she has since reclaimed her creative identity. "I want everyone to have grace for themselves, but I'm very good at convincing myself that my purpose is bigger than the moment," she said.

Simpson added, "It felt like over the last 15 years of not singing, I'd left these breadcrumbs to walk myself back to the throne where I belong. It's my chair, my crown, and I reclaimed that."
