Jharkhand cop's son killed in Giridih attack during late-night food outing

A 24-year-old man, Ritik Yadav, was killed in Giridih, Jharkhand, after being attacked by a group of over eight people late Thursday night, police said. Yadav, a resident of Rajendra Nagar, was the son of Musafir Singh, a sub-inspector currently posted in Bokaro.

According to the police, Yadav had stepped out with friends for a late-night meal in the Bandarkupi area when the attack took place around 11 pm. "It was reported that Ritik and his friends went to eat noodles late at night. A group of over eight people approached them and attacked Ritik with sticks and other weapons. Yadav was declared dead at the location," said Jeetwahan Oraon, Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) for Giridih Sadar.

Police reached the spot and sent the body for postmortem to Sadar Hospital. Some suspects have been detained and are being questioned.

A friend of the deceased, who was also injured in the attack, said the three of them had gone to their favourite food spot and were finishing when the group arrived and began abusing and assaulting them. "There were around eight people, and they brought lathis and rods and hit Ritik on the head. He died on the spot," he said. The friend added that after the killing, the attackers said, "Maar diye, jaana, isko jo karna hai kar lo" (We killed him, do what you will) and fled.

Musafir Singh said his son had cleared the home guard exam and was supposed to join as soon as he received training information.

Rita Chaurasiya, a ward commissioner in the area, claimed the victim knew the suspects and that an argument broke out at the hotel. She also said a friend of the victim tried to rescue him on a motorcycle, but the attackers pursued them and assaulted him again.
