Job Crisis and Exam Leaks Undermine Nehru's Promise, Rajya Sabha MP Warns

A Rajya Sabha MP has cautioned that a weak job market and recurring paper leaks are dismantling a foundational promise made by India's first Prime Minister. The lawmaker highlighted that for generations, Indian families have placed their faith in a straightforward formula for upward mobility: study hard, complete an education, earn a degree, secure a job, and build a better life.

This formula, the MP argued, constitutes one of the most powerful social contracts in modern India. It has long served as the bedrock of aspiration for millions of households, particularly those from middle-class and lower-income backgrounds, who view education as the surest path to economic security and social advancement.

However, the MP warned that this contract is now under severe strain. A persistently weak job market has left many educated youths unable to find suitable employment, while a spate of paper leaks in competitive examinations has further eroded public confidence in the fairness of the system. Together, these twin crises are breaking the promise that hard work and merit will be rewarded.

The remarks come amid growing public concern over unemployment rates and the integrity of recruitment exams.
