Jordan Says It Is Not a Party to Iran-US Conflict

Jordan's Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi has firmly stated that his country is not a participant in the ongoing conflict between Iran and the United States. Speaking at a joint press conference in Vienna with his Austrian counterpart, Beate Meinl-Reisinger, Safadi addressed regional tensions and his nation's position.

Safadi rejected suggestions that Jordan serves as a launchpad for American military operations. "There are no independent American bases in Jordan," he asserted. He explained that US troops are present within Jordanian bases under a long-standing defence cooperation framework, which also includes personnel from Germany, France, and Austria. This arrangement, he said, is part of Jordan's broader effort to build its defence capabilities through international partnerships.

The minister also leveled accusations against Iran, claiming that Tehran had attacked Jordan and other Arab Gulf states within two hours of the war's start. He accused Iran of destabilising the region long before the current hostilities, citing proxy networks, clandestine operations, and interference in internal affairs. "We do not buy their argument," Safadi said, underscoring Jordan's sovereignty.

While reaffirming Jordan's commitment to peaceful diplomacy, Safadi made clear that Amman reserves the right to defend itself. "We are entitled to do whatever we believe is necessary to protect our country, protect our people and protect our sovereignty," he stated.
