Kadapa police add mobile forensic vehicle to sharpen crime-scene investigation

Kadapa district police have added a mobile forensic vehicle to their fleet, a move aimed at enabling the scientific collection of evidence at crime scenes and strengthening evidence-based investigation.

The vehicle has been sanctioned through the Andhra Pradesh Forensic Science Laboratory (APFSL). It is outfitted with high-intensity lighting, preliminary blood testing and collection kits, DNA sample collection kits, and screening kits for narcotics and explosives. A stereo microscope is on board for identifying and examining trace evidence.

For documenting scenes and handling digital material, the unit carries a DSLR camera, a CCTV/dashboard camera, a digital investigation kit, a forensic imager, pen drives, memory cards and SSD storage. It also has facilities for the acquisition and imaging of digital devices.

Nachiket Vishwanath Shelke inspected the vehicle's features and said the equipment would allow investigating officials and forensic personnel to systematically document crime scenes and preserve both physical and digital evidence.
