Kalindi Express Derail Attempt Foiled in Kanpur; LPG Cylinder Found on Tracks

An attempt to derail the Kalindi Express was made in Kanpur's Shivrajpur area, police said, after an LPG cylinder was found placed on the railway tracks. The train, travelling from Prayagraj towards Bhiwani, struck the cylinder before coming to a halt on Sunday morning.

According to Additional Commissioner of Police (Law and Order) Harish Chandra, the loco pilot spotted the cylinder on the tracks and immediately applied the emergency brakes. The train hit the cylinder, which was thrown clear of the tracks as a result. The pilot then alerted the guard and the gateman about the incident.

Senior officials reached the spot after receiving information around 8.20 a.m. and began an investigation. A forensics team was called in, and the Railway Protection Force is also probing the matter.

The train remained at the site for about 20 minutes before being moved, and was stopped again at Bilhaur station for further investigation. The damaged cylinder was recovered, along with a bottle of petrol and matchboxes found at the spot.

Police said efforts are underway to identify those responsible, and that they will be dealt with sternly.
