Kallakurichi woman safe at Indian Embassy in Kuwait; repatriation underway
A Tamil Nadu woman who alleged harassment as a domestic worker in Kuwait is safe at the Indian Embassy. Repatriation is in progress after her video appeal went viral.
A woman from Kallakurichi district who was employed as a domestic worker in Kuwait has reached the Indian Embassy there safely, and authorities have initiated the process to bring her back to Tamil Nadu.
The woman, identified as A. Anitha of Oorangani village near Sankarapuram, had gone to Kuwait a few months ago through an agent. In a video that recently circulated on social media, she alleged that she had faced various forms of harassment over the past two months and that she had not been provided food for several days. She appealed for help to return home.
Kallakurichi Collector J.E. Padmaja said officials verified the woman's identity and contacted her family members. The details collected from her parents were forwarded to authorities in Chennai for further action.
The Collector confirmed that Anitha is currently safe at the Indian Embassy in Kuwait. She is expected to be repatriated once documentation and clearance procedures are completed.
Kallakurichi Superintendent of Police I. Shahnaz said the agent, identified as Selvaraj, who had sent Anitha to Kuwait for domestic work, has been arrested. A case has been registered against him under the Emigration Act, 1983.
