Six held within 24 hours of ₹40-lakh robbery in Kalyan; ₹36.48 lakh recovered

Six men have been arrested in connection with the robbery of ₹40 lakh from two employees of a food agency in Kalyan, with the Crime Branch cracking the case within 24 hours of the offence, police said on September 21, 2026.

According to the police, the two employees of Kranti Food Agency in Ulhasnagar were on their way to a Bank of Baroda branch in Kalyan West at around 1.05 p.m. on September 15 to deposit the money when they were intercepted. Four men on two motorcycles are alleged to have trailed them between Sahajanand Chowk and Lal Chowk, kicked their scooter to make them fall, and then assaulted them before fleeing with the bag containing the cash.

The case was registered at Bazarpeth police station on a complaint by Farooq Ismail Attar, 62, a resident of Kalyan West. The offences invoked are Sections 309(6), 3(5) and 61(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, covering robbery involving hurt, acts committed with common intention and criminal conspiracy.

While the local police investigated, the Crime Branch ran a parallel probe and, using technical analysis along with information from confidential informants, identified and detained six men suspected of planning and carrying out the robbery.

The accused have been identified as Sameer Akhtar Shaikh, 28, of Kalyan East; Aftab Aslam Khan, 25, of Thane; Shahnawaz Ghaffar Hasan Ansari, 36, of Ambernath; Soheb Yunus Shaikh, 24, of Kongaon in Bhiwandi; Mujahid Anwar Khan, 24, of Rabodi in Thane; and Shahid Isak Shaikh, 19, also from Rabodi.

Police said they recovered a portion of the stolen cash and two motorcycles allegedly used in the offence, with the total value of the recovered property put at ₹36.48 lakh. All six accused have been remanded to police custody until September 22.

Investigators are continuing to establish the individual roles of the accused and to trace the remaining amount.
