Kangana Ranaut Questions Kriti Sanon's Outfit in Raksha Bandhan Ad
Kangana Ranaut criticises Kriti Sanon's Indo-Western outfit in a Raksha Bandhan ad, asking why she chose 'bikini/undergarments' for the ritual.
Actor and BJP MP Kangana Ranaut has joined the social media debate over Kriti Sanon's outfit in a recently released Raksha Bandhan jewellery advertisement. In an Instagram Stories post on Monday evening, Ranaut questioned the styling choice, noting that modern women have a wide range of clothing options for the festival.
"It's a wonderful time to be a woman. Our closets are full of variety of clothes, today's woman is a global woman. From cocktail dresses to lehenga cholis, jeans to saris, bikinis to salwar kameez, from all the options that are available to us today why would you tie your brother a rakhi in your bikini/undergarments? Where are all your styling options? Ha ha the advert looks intentionally creepy!" she wrote.
The advertisement features Sanon in an Indo-Western ensemble consisting of a bralette-style blouse, cape, and draped skirt. The styling has drawn criticism from several social media users, who questioned its appropriateness for the traditional festival.
One user wrote, "Have the guts to put same attire for other festivals?" Another commented, "Nonsense dressing sense. Try showing it on some other festival. Just objectifying women to such extent." A third user noted the absence of traditional elements, saying, "No traditional wear, no puja thali, no tilak on brother's forehead, no sweets .. nothing... only show off .. what kind of festival is this???"
Raksha Bandhan, observed on the full moon of the Hindu month of Shravan, celebrates the bond between siblings. Sisters tie a sacred rakhi on their brothers' wrists, symbolising love and protection, while brothers traditionally promise to safeguard their sisters and offer gifts. Rituals include aarti, tilak, and sweets.
On the work front, Kriti Sanon was last seen in 'Cocktail 2', starring Shahid Kapoor and Rashmika Mandanna, directed by Homi Adajania, now streaming on Netflix. Kangana Ranaut's latest film, 'Bharat Bhhagya Viddhaata', based on the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks, is available on Zee5.
