Kannur police arrest Bangladeshi woman for alleged illegal stay, forged Aadhaar use
Kannur Town police arrested a 29-year-old Bangladeshi woman working at a spa near the railway station for allegedly staying in India without valid documents and using an illegally obtained Aadhaar card.
The Kannur Town police have arrested a 29-year-old Bangladeshi national who was allegedly living and working in the city without valid travel documents and using an illegally obtained Aadhaar card.
According to the police, the arrested woman has been identified as Salina Akter, a resident of Faridpur in Bangladesh. The action followed a tip-off received by the intelligence wing that a foreign national lacking valid papers was employed at a spa near the Kannur railway station.
Acting on the information, a police team led by Town sub-inspector T.K. Akhil carried out a search at the establishment on Monday afternoon. During the operation, the woman was unable to produce a passport, visa or any other document permitting her stay in India. She is said to have told the officers that her identification papers were stored on her mobile phone.
After she shared the pattern to unlock the device, the police found photographs of a Bangladeshi national identity card in the name of Salina Akter, daughter of Mohammed Selim Gazi. The card listed Faridpur as her address, Dhaka as her place of birth and Bangladesh as her nationality.
On being questioned, she admitted that she did not hold a valid passport, visa or other travel documents required for staying in the country, the police said. Investigators added that she had reached Kerala on July 31 and had been working at the spa for the past few months.
A case has been registered under Section 3(1), read with Section 21 of the Immigration and Foreigners Act, 2025. Besides sub-inspector Akhil, the arrest was carried out by civil police officers Kiran, Vinto and Neetu.
