Kanpur Man Dies After Assault for Objecting to Public Urination

A 47-year-old man succumbed to injuries in Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh, days after he was allegedly assaulted for objecting to a person urinating in public. The incident occurred in the Kakadev police station area, where the victim, identified as Amit Kumar, reportedly confronted a group of youths.

Police said Kumar objected to someone urinating in the middle of the road late at night on September 5. The group, allegedly under the influence of alcohol, surrounded him and attacked him. During the assault, one of the accused struck Kumar multiple times on the head with a brick, leaving him critically injured.

Kumar was admitted to a hospital by his family, who initially reported the injuries as resulting from an accident. He died during treatment on the evening of September 7. The entire sequence of events was captured on a CCTV camera installed near the scene.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central) Atul Srivastava said that after Kumar's death, police reviewed the footage and conducted local inquiries. Detailed questioning revealed the altercation leading to the assault. A case has been registered at the Kakadev police station under relevant legal sections.

Four police teams have been constituted to apprehend the accused, who are expected to be arrested soon and face legal action.
