Kanpur man dies after assault over objection to public urination

A 47-year-old man died in Uttar Pradesh's Kanpur after he was allegedly assaulted by a group of youths for objecting to someone urinating on the road. The incident took place in the Kakadev police station area.

The deceased, identified as Amit Kumar, had reportedly objected to a person urinating in the middle of the road. This angered a group of youths, who were allegedly under the influence of alcohol, and they surrounded and attacked him.

During the assault, one of the accused allegedly struck Kumar multiple times on the head with a brick, leaving him critically injured. He was admitted to a hospital, where he died late on September 7 after undergoing treatment for two days.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central) Atul Srivastava said that on the night of September 5, Kumar was brought to the hospital by his family members with injuries, initially reported as accidental. After his death, police reviewed CCTV footage from a camera installed near the scene and conducted local inquiries.

"Detailed questioning revealed that he had been involved in a dispute or altercation with certain individuals. He had been assaulted during this incident, sustaining injuries that ultimately led to his death," Srivastava said.

A case has been registered at the Kakadev police station under relevant legal sections. Four police teams have been formed to trace and arrest the accused, who are expected to be apprehended soon.
