Kansas Home Shooting Leaves Six Dead, Including Four Children

Six people, including four children, were found dead inside a home in Winfield, Kansas, on Tuesday morning after police responded to a distress call from the suspected shooter.

Winfield Police Chief Robbie deLong said officers received a call at approximately 8:50 a.m. from a male individual who stated he had killed his entire family and was preparing to take his own life. Officers in the area responded immediately and heard a single gunshot as the first officer approached the house. They then retreated and set up a perimeter, treating the situation as a barricade.

At around 10:57 a.m., after backup arrived and other options were exhausted, officers breached the front door. Inside, they found six deceased individuals: the male suspect, a female resident, and four children aged 3 to 9.

The Kansas Bureau of Investigation (KBI) was called in to assist with the scene. Special Agent in Charge Jason Diaz identified the shooter as Ronald H. Williams Sr., 53. The other victims were identified as Kelly L. George, 44; Carol A. Williams, 9; Ronald H. Williams Jr., 7; Sarah K. Williams, 5; and Kelly M. Maggee-Williams, 3.

Chief deLong acknowledged that police had recent contact with Williams, describing it as "erratic behavior" within the last few weeks, but said nothing indicated the tragedy that would unfold. The investigation is ongoing.
