Karachi Lights Up With Fireworks as Pakistan Marks 79th Independence Day

Thousands of residents gathered across Karachi as the clock struck midnight, marking the start of Pakistan's 79th Independence Day with a spectacular fireworks display that illuminated the city's skyline.

Families had begun assembling earlier in the evening for cultural events, while homes and public buildings were adorned with colorful paper flags and lights in the days leading up to the occasion.

Among those at the festivities was Karachi resident Sanobar Siddiqui, who spoke about the country's diversity. "Pakistan is a very beautiful country, made up of many different cultures," she said, adding that the nation's strength lies in its people and their collective responsibility to improve systems, particularly education.

Ahmed Shah, President of the Arts Council of Pakistan, emphasized the country's commitment to peace on the global stage. "Pakistan was created to endure and to maintain a position of dignity and respect in the international community," he said, noting the nation's efforts to help resolve conflicts in the region and beyond.

The evening featured live performances by artists on stage, with crowds cheering throughout the night. Pakistan emerged as an independent state on August 14, 1947, following the end of British colonial rule and the partition of the Indian subcontinent.

Official ceremonies, including flag-raising events, are scheduled to continue through Friday as the nation observes its independence milestone.
