Kargil Veteran Alleges Iron Rod Attack by Parking Attendant in Gurugram

A retired Indian Air Force officer who served during the 1999 Kargil conflict has alleged that a parking attendant at a Gurugram commercial complex attacked him with an iron rod, leaving him with serious head injuries and a fractured hand.

Group Captain Amit Kumar Gupta (retired), part of the Air Force's Operation Safed Sagar team, had gone to Magnum Global Park on Thursday night for a family dinner at a restaurant there. He dropped his family near the venue around 8 pm and then went to park his car.

In his police complaint, Gupta said the parking staff directed him to several spots — the valet, the basement and the multilevel parking — before refusing to park the vehicle. As he tried to reverse his car, an attendant allegedly struck the windshield in an attempt to break it.

Gupta said that when he stepped out to protest, the attendant returned with an iron rod and hit him twice, on his hand and then on his head. He was left drenched in blood, he said, adding that the accused also threatened to kill him.

He alleged that neither the security personnel nor other parking staff at the spot came to his aid. He said he called the police helpline but no one arrived for another half an hour, and that a chef eventually intervened and saved his life.

Gupta was taken by ambulance to Medanta Hospital, where he underwent surgery to fuse his elbow bone with plates. He said the attack was sudden and unprovoked and that he could not defend himself.

In his complaint, he further alleged that the hospital submitted a medico-legal case report that made no mention of the bleeding or the elbow injury, and that he was not receiving support from the police. He has demanded strict action against the accused, including an FIR for attempted murder and causing grievous hurt.

Operation Safed Sagar was a high-altitude Indian Air Force operation launched in 1999 to flush out Pakistani infiltrators from occupied Indian positions in the Kargil sector. A Netflix series released in August pays tribute to the air operation.
