Karnataka grants ₹1 crore per constituency to fight drought, water scarcity
Karnataka has allocated ₹1 crore to every Assembly constituency to address drinking water scarcity amid severe drought, with officials in Yadgir told to speed up water projects and rural employment.
The State government has sanctioned ₹1 crore for each Assembly constituency to address growing drinking water shortages triggered by severe drought conditions, district in-charge Secretary Manoj Jain said on Friday.
Mr. Jain, who holds the Minority Welfare, Haj and Waqf portfolio, was reviewing disaster management arrangements at the Zilla Panchayat auditorium in Yadgir. He instructed officials to begin constituency-level groundwater monitoring and to accelerate work on the Jaladhare and multi-village drinking water schemes.
He also called for better management of water reserves at the Narayanpur and Sannati barrages.
To curb distress migration from rural areas, the administration has been told to expand employment under the VB-G RAM G scheme, with particular attention to gram panchayats that are lagging in performance.
Mr. Jain said plans were in place to set up horticulture clusters in the forest areas of Gurmitkal and Shorapur, and that departments were coordinating to improve academic results in government schools.
Deputy Commissioner Rahul Pandve briefed him on water levels in the Krishna and Bhima rivers and on the current drought situation and other development matters. Superintendent of Police Pruthvik Shankar and other district officials attended the meeting.
