267 Karnataka teachers selected as Principal (Grade I) still await appointment orders
Over 250 teachers selected as Principal (Grade I) in Karnataka government degree colleges are yet to receive appointment orders, months after selection and training.
More than 250 teachers selected for direct appointment as Principal (Grade I) in Karnataka's government degree colleges are still waiting for their appointment orders, months after the selection process concluded.
The 267 candidates were chosen through the Karnataka Examinations Authority (KEA), which conducted the selection examination in July 2023. Of those selected, 28 were teaching in private colleges, while the remaining candidates were serving in government degree colleges.
The government issued the selection notification on January 31, 2026, and published the selection list in the State Gazette on February 17, 2026. Anticipating their appointment orders, 26 of the 28 teachers working in private colleges resigned, and they have been without a job since. The remaining two are serving out their notice periods.
According to the selected teachers, the group underwent training at the Karnataka State Higher Education Academy in Dharwad in three batches. The 15-day training for the final batch ended on May 6, 2026.
Of the total selections, 231 teachers belong to the Residual Parent Cadre quota and 36 to the Kalyana Karnataka quota. The eligibility criteria for the post required candidates to hold a Ph.D., have 15 years of service as college teachers, and be Associate Professors.
The teachers said Higher Education Minister Basararaj Rayaraddi announced at the State-level Teachers' Day programme on September 5 that appointment orders would be issued within a week. No order has reached any of the selected candidates so far.
