Karnataka to fill 814 PU lecturer posts through KEA competitive exam
Karnataka has approved recruitment to 814 lecturer posts in government pre-university colleges, to be filled via a KEA competitive examination.
The Karnataka government has issued a notification approving the recruitment of 814 lecturers for vacant posts in government pre-university (PU) colleges under the School Education Department (Pre-University).
The vacancies are split between two cadres. Thirty-six posts, spread across seven subjects, are reserved for the Kalyana Karnataka region, while 778 posts covering 10 subjects fall under the Non-Kalyana Karnataka cadre.
Candidates will be selected through a competitive examination to be conducted by the Karnataka Examinations Authority (KEA).
The recruitment addresses a substantial backlog. More than 3,500 lecturer posts are currently vacant across the State's 1,371 government PU colleges. The government had filled around 1,500 lecturer posts in 2022, and no recruitment drive has been held since.
For this round, posts have been allocated across subjects as follows: Kannada (89), English (145), History (50), Economics (90), Political Science (25), Sociology (25), Geography (10), Commerce (150), Physics (30), Chemistry (30), Mathematics (30), Biology (30) and Computer Science (110).
The Karnataka General Services (Pre-University Education) (Recruitment) Rules, 2013, were recently amended to allow PU lecturers to teach classes 9 and 10 as well. Lecturers appointed against the newly sanctioned 814 posts will accordingly be required to take classes at both levels.
