Karnataka Cabinet expansion: woman minister decision to be taken in Delhi, says CM
Karnataka CM D.K. Shivakumar says the decision on filling two vacant Cabinet berths, including a woman's representation, will be discussed in Delhi.
Karnataka Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar has said that the question of filling the two remaining Cabinet berths, including the induction of a woman legislator, will be taken up during his visit to Delhi.
The issue of accommodating a woman in the Cabinet would be discussed in the national capital, he told presspersons.
The Chief Minister is travelling to Delhi for a Congress Working Committee meeting scheduled for Tuesday. The meeting is expected to take up the issue of the Election Commission of India and the Special Intensive Revision exercise under way across the country. A gathering of Opposition leaders has also been convened on the same matter, he said.
On the selection of a woman legislator for the Cabinet, sources indicated that party leaders in the State have not yet reached a consensus, though some names are being discussed. Without an agreement among the leaders, the Cabinet expansion cannot go ahead, the sources said.
Asked about appointments to boards and corporations, the Chief Minister said a decision had already been taken in Delhi. Senior legislators would be accommodated first, with party workers to be appointed later, he said.
Congress General Secretary in charge of Karnataka, Randeep Singh Surjewala, held discussions with the Chief Minister and prospective legislators last week before finalising the names.
