Karnataka handicrafts body to launch upgraded e-commerce portal

KSHDCL will launch an upgraded e-commerce portal during Ganesha festival, featuring customisation options and expanded product range.

The Karnataka State Handicrafts Development Corporation Ltd. (KSHDCL) is preparing to launch an upgraded e-commerce platform, with the rollout planned around the upcoming Ganesha festival. The initiative is designed to broaden the market for the state's traditional crafts, both within India and internationally.

Managing Director H.R. Rajappa noted that the current portal dates back to 2012. The new platform is being developed as more than a cosmetic refresh, with a focus on improving the overall user experience and making it more accessible to customers.

A central feature of the upgraded site will be a 'Customise Product' option. This will allow buyers to specify preferences on size, design, colour, material, engraving, personalisation, quantity, and packaging. The tool is also intended to cater to corporate gifting and special event orders.

The digital storefront will consolidate a wide array of Karnataka's craft heritage onto one platform. This includes sandalwood and rosewood items, Bidriware, Channapatna lacquerware, Kinhala toys, Mysore traditional paintings, Ganjifa art, metal crafts, and handloom and textile products.

Rohini Sindhuri, Secretary of the MSME, Mines and Textiles Departments, stated that the portal is expected to help increase annual online sales for the flagship Cauvery Handicrafts Emporium to ₹5 crore within three years. The move is also aimed at generating fresh market opportunities for artisans while offering consumers a broader selection of products.
